American Bresse

Let us introduce you to the ultimate dual-purpose meat and egg bird called the American Bresse. They were first imported from France in 2011 into the United States by Greenfire Farms. All Bresse chickens in the US are called American Bresse due to import restrictions.  We have the white bresse on the farm and our stock is from Greenfire Farms and other reputable sources. These birds are excellent layers of extra-large to jumbo eggs. This bird is an excellent forager for those who want a self-sustained bird to free range and produce eggs. These birds appear to a little flighty than some of our other birds. For this reason, this gives them excellent free ranging skills and reduces predation. Besides their egg laying and free ranging abilities, this bird is more famously known as a meat bird due to their excellent tasting meat. Bresse are supposed to free range their entire time during their growth stages. After maturing to their adult size, around 4 months, most Breese go through a conditioning process to improve meat consistency and quality. Bresse are then confined to a small pin and fed a diet rich in dairy and corn for 3-4 weeks prior to slaughter. This helps with marbling of their meat. The marbling effect of the meat from a Bresse improves flavor intensity, tenderness, and meat quality. This is why a Bresse chicken is very popular amongst butcher shops and food lovers all over. We are NPIP and AI approved for the State of Tennessee. NPIP participant number #63-920.  We will send appropriate NPIP/AI paperwork with all shipments.
